This October, experience Art That Is Eerie, CAM’s special self-guided art hunt presented in connection with Haunted Lewiston.

Explore the museum, look for the 👻 on select artwork labels, and discover works from the CAM Collection that evoke the mysterious, unsettling, strange, and unexpected. What makes a work of art feel eerie—is it what you see, or what you imagine might be there?

Art That Is Eerie is free to explore throughout October during regular museum hours, Wednesday–Sunday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.

What a Night at CAM! ✨

Thank you to the 230+ guests—including more than 160 Niagara University students—who joined us last night for an exceptional Fall Opening Reception at the Castellani Art Museum!

We were thrilled to welcome Sasha Stiles and Joel Mulindwa, who shared their work firsthand through wonderful gallery tours of Sasha Stiles: STANZA and finding rest by Joel Mulindwa. We also celebrated From Decay to Display: Conserved Works from the Collection and took time to recognize NUArtists and Makers and honor Marian Granfield, founder of Niagara University’s AHM Program, and her lasting impact on the arts at NU.

To our artists, students, members, colleagues, friends, and community—thank you for showing up and supporting CAM. Seeing our galleries filled with conversation, curiosity, and so many members of our campus and community made the evening incredibly special.

If you missed the opening, the exhibitions are waiting for you! Come experience them during regular museum hours, Wednesday–Sunday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.

What does it take to preserve a work of art for generations to come? 🎨

From Decay to Display: Conserved Works from the Collection pulls back the curtain on the art and science of conservation, bringing together works from the CAM Collection that have undergone professional treatment—and sharing the stories of the care, expertise, and collaboration that helped preserve them.

Among the works on view are seven paintings conserved with support from the NYSCA/GHHN Conservation Treatment Grant Program: Jean Charlot’s La Tormenta, Albert Pinkham Ryder’s Moonlit Coastal Scene, Niagara Falls [from the Canadian side] (artist unknown, possibly Robert Reginald Whale), Ferdinand Richardt’s Niagara University, George Luks’ Portrait of a Girl with a Doll, Elmer Ellsworth Garnsey’s Sunset Yellowstone Canyon, and George Inness Jr.’s The Sunburst.

See these works—and the remarkable results of conservation—up close tomorrow night! ✨

The conservation of the aforementioned paintings was supported through the NYSCA/GHHN Conservation Treatment Grant Program administered by Greater Hudson Heritage Network. Making room for poetry. 💙

Students from Christian Central Academy recently spent time inside Sasha Stiles: STANZA, experiencing a gallery where poetry moves beyond the page and unfolds through sound, image, voice, and code.

Designed as a space to slow down, listen, read, and reflect, STANZA invites visitors to inhabit language in new ways and consider how poetry and technology can shape the ways we communicate, create, and understand one another.

We loved seeing students make themselves at home in the gallery and engage with the exhibition on their own terms. Thank you to Christian Central Academy for visiting CAM!

The Castellani Art Museum is excited to be part of WE THE ARTISTS, an international digital art initiative led by .ART () that builds upon our USA250: Celebrating the American Vision exhibition and connects artists, institutions, students, and audiences across Niagara Falls, Washington, D.C., Baku, and beyond.

Now, we’re calling on digital artists everywhere to be part of it.

🎨 Artists at any career stage and from anywhere in the world are invited to apply and explore one big question:

What does the American Vision mean today?

Selected artists will become part of an international conversation inspired by CAM’s collection and brought to audiences across borders through digital art, technology, and collaboration.
