Meet pianist Ivan Docenko, joining us for World Opera Day Beyond Borders!

A familiar face in Western New York’s music community, Ivan retired in June 2025 after 33 years in Buffalo State University’s Music Department, where he served as a staff pianist, vocal and instrumental coach, and chamber choir accompanist.

You may have heard him performing the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack with the Ed Croft Trio, or alongside his violinist brother, Gregory Docenko. Together, the brothers are known for their versatility, sharing everything from classical to popular and ethnic music with audiences throughout WNY.

Ivan has also accompanied Buffalo Opera Unlimited singers in televised performances for WNED/PBS. He continues to coach local musicians, compose, and perform and we’re excited to welcome his talents to the NACC!
