Jocelyn, Graham, Tim, and Anthony were honored to represent Upland at the grand opening of the Japanese Hall in Gering, Nebraska, on Saturday. We are proud to have designed and built the majority of the exhibits in the historic building, which was moved to the Legacy of the Plains Museum grounds.
The Hall was a focal point of the Japanese-American community in the area. The exhibits feature artifacts and stories that span early immigration, discriminatory laws, building businesses, recreation, patriotism and involvement in the U.S. military, internment camps, and the continued legacy of Japanese descendants.
What a celebration! The opening ceremony started with stunning Taiko drumming, and the ribbon was cut by Japanese Consul-General Yanagi and Nebraska Governor Pillen. Hundreds of people attended the family events throughout the day and explored the exhibits.
Congratulations to Vickie Schaepler, who was the primary mover and shaker behind the project. The Upland team is proud to have collaborated with Vickie and the rest of the Japanese Hall Committee to help preserve the legacy of Japanese immigrants in Nebraska and the High Plains!
