At the University of Detroit Jesuit High School, students run a special program to make sure no one is buried without respect.

The St. Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Ministry, started in 2015, helps carry the coffins of homeless people, veterans, and others who have no family or friends at their funerals. Inspired by a program in Cleveland, it follows the school’s motto — “Men for Others.”

Students learn how to take part in funerals, understand the value of dignity in death, and pray for each person they help bury. The experience teaches them kindness and respect, showing that how we honor others in death shows our true humanity in life.

November is Elks Veterans Remembrance Month

🎖️Thank you to our Vermont Governor 🇺🇲

Earlier this year I signed a new law, designating November as the Month of the Veteran in Vermont.

Vermonters have always done more than their fair share. From the early days of the Revolution to the Global War on Terror and everything in between, Vermont’s veterans have stepped up and made tremendous sacrifices to protect our freedoms and defend democracy around the world.

Veterans continue to serve our communities with leadership and compassion long after their time in uniform, and we’re grateful for their contributions to our state and service to our nation.

This month, and every month, we honor their service and the families who stand beside them.
