Founded in 1991, Warebrook is a week of workshops, lectures and concerts devoted to the music of our time. Warebrook’s mission is to increase the awareness of modern chamber and vocal music in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont by creating performance and educational opportunities for the community.

Warebrook provides a professional venue to present the music of established and emerging composers, commissions new works, provies performance opportunities for musicians, and creates fellowship between composers, performers and audiences. Warebrook was founded on Hillandale Farm, a 450 acre working dairy farm in Irasburg, Vermont, the home of the Doncaster Family.

The Warebrook Contemporary Music Festival returns to the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont after a fourteen-year break this summer in mid-July. Darry Dolezal (‘cello), Paul Jacobs (piano), Susan Jensen (violin), Mark Margolies (clarinet) and Jane Zwerneman (horn) will be in residence for the week rehearsing and presenting several workshops for the community. Composers Sara Doncaster and William Pfaff will teach a four-week composition seminar for student composers, leading to a reading session of new works. The week culminates in a concert on Saturday, July 18th at the United Church of Newport.

Art in Bloom slated for July 31st and August 1st

The annual Art in Bloom event, a fundraiser for both the Four Seasons Garden Club and the Memphremagog Arts Center, will take place on July 31st and August 1st at the MAC gallery at 158 Main Street in Newport, VT. The event kicks off on Friday, July 31st from 5-7 pm with a reception including wine, appetizers, and musical entertainment by musician Chris Nicotera at the gallery for a cost of $10, available from MAC and the Four Seasons Garden Club. The arrangements will be available for visiting on Saturday, August 1 at no charge. Guests can also visit the ongoing “Shakespeare and Friends” exhibit by Ann Young.

“Art in Bloom is a creative opportunity for anyone loving flowers to complement a favorite painting, or other art object, with color, imagination, and rhythm, “ said Marvelene Richards. “As a member of the Four Seasons Garden Club and a participant, I find it challenging, but fun. It’s always interesting to see the ideas others have used. Interpretation and unique creativity provide a splendid array of visual delights, and amazing fragrances, too.”

The public is invited to enter their own arrangements - just drop by the MAC to choose an inspiration and sign up, advanced registration is required.

MAC summer gallery hours: Mon-Sat 10-5, Sundays by chance 11-3. Both Memphremagog Arts Collaborative and the Four Seasons Garden Club are non-profit 501(c)-3 organizations. For more information, please call 802.334.1966, or visit the web - www.maccenterforthearts.com and/or

Shakespeare and Friends exhibit opening Friday, July 10th at MAC

This summer Memphremagog Arts Collaborative welcomes a major exhibit of large scale oil paintings “Shakespeare and Friends” by local artist Ann Young in the Downstairs Gallery.

The paintings shown in “Shakespeare And Friends” represent one of many types of art work by Ann Young. The works in this group reflect her appreciation of Shakespeare’s use of language and many quotable quotes. “I do these because they are fun, and a welcome respite from the paintings devoted to social commentary that I usually do.”

A long time resident of the NEK, Young is a lifetime artist and has concentrated on painting since 2001. She is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, majoring in ceramics, but is self taught in painting. Her earlier work includes ceramic sculpture, large scale wood carving and gallery installations.

The exhibit opens on Friday July 10 in the Downstairs Gallery with a reception starting at 5pm that is free to all. The exhibit will run through the summer months, closing Friday, September 4th.
