Will be posting more photos during our transition and move to the ASUN campus. These were all taken inside and above the “Silver Moon Club” in the fifties. If you have any photos or memorabilia please let us know. We are a nonprofit with a simple goal of preserving the musical history of Newport and Jackson County Arkansas. Hb

So sorry to lose J M Van Eaton this past week. Considered to be the “House drummer” Studios in the late 50s. He recorded many hits with the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis and Billy Lee Riley. Also appeared with Riley At Depot days in Newport for about 15 years before his death. RIP JM!

J.M. “Jimmy” Van Eaton, a pioneering rock ‘n’ roll drummer who played behind Jerry Lee Lewis and Billy Lee Riley at Sun Records in Memphis, has died.

Recently moved the last piece of Jackson County rock 'n' roll history to the ASUN campus. The caption goes with the piano and tells the story. Before his death Sonny Burgess positively identified the instrument as being the "house piano" at Porky's rooftop barbecue in Newport. Elvis played his second Jackson County show there in March 1955. If Elvis played the piano that night this is the piano he played. Thanks to the strong backs of the men of John 3:16 for lifting the hundred-year-old piano on to the loading dock at the college. Stay tuned in the coming months for more details about the development of the museum's new location. Hb
