Meet Julie Brayton, our visiting artist until end of October. Julie is a Rhode Island contemporary impressionist painter who works in oil and acrylic. As a native Rhode Islander and daughter of a fisherman, she grew up on and near the water. She felt as if she became one with the ocean. Julie felt such peace and tranquil ity whenever she was near it and the nature that grew around it. It was so natural for her at a young age to paint scenes of the water. As she developed as an artist and a person she learned to express those feelings on an even deeper level. The skills Julie developed allowed her to translate not only her personal experience but those of oth ers. Julie characterizes her work as expressive color relaying the atmospheric effects light has on color. Julie uses brushstrokes that are bold with less attention on details but instead on expressive strokes to relay the feeling of the moment. Most recently Ju lie has taken this expression a step further to more abstracted realism.
