Newcomerstown Historical Society We are a small-town historical society operating not one, but two museums. The Olde Main Street Museum and Social Center is a town within a building.

Our Temperance Tavern Museum is an 1841 inn which was a stop for passengers on the Ohio and Erie Canal.

Come join us for the second volume of Stories in Stone. Tickets can be ordered at Newcomerstownhistoricalsociety.org under Events or call the Museum at 740-498-7735 and leave a message (the answering machine is checked M,W,F). We will be visiting 10 locations in East State Street cemetery. Some of the people you will hear about include Adam Beers - a Civil War surgeon, The Craig’s - a couple who ran the Underground Railroad through town, Andrew Crater - builder of the Temperance Tavern one of our current museum buildings, Elizabeth Mulvane - a Civil War nurse, William Tidrick, Albert Zimmerman - a local lumberyard man, Eliza Kimball Hill - a Victorian Stone which depicts full bodies, Adam Miller - buried under the bronze horse, Benjamin Miller - survivor of the infamous Andersonville Prison in Georgia during the Civil War, William Clow and family and the importance of the Clow Corporation to the building of Newcomerstown. The tour will end at Olde Main Street Museum for Sam Douglas and Carrie Nation when she came to bust up the bar. Fall desserts and beverages will be served.

The winner of the basket raffle - tickets were sold during Treasure Trove is Sue Bowman! Congratulations and thank you to everyone who attended the event today. It was a new event and very successful so it may become a regular event! Sorry about the weather which we can’t control!
