We will be using the creative process established by David Jacob Duke in our upcoming kids classes. This is a great way to walk the artist through the process in a confident and achievable way! I learned about the process during his interview on Collector Quests earlier this year and it has helped myself and my son in our creative journey, so much so, that we want to use it in our community classes. In addition to DUKES artwork on display we will have over 50 sketch card artists from around the world on exhibit to inspire.

It's finally here!! The Others Before Self Exhibit at GRIT Gallery - Opening 9/12/26 from 1pm-7pm.

We are proud to release our fall schedule for Free Youth Sketch Classes!

The exhibit will showcase over 100 Sketch Card Art Pieces donated to the program, as well as on loan from private collections.

The Students can find their favorite artist's style within the exhibit, scan a QR code where they can hear positive encouragement from the artist themselves (via Collector Quests Artist Interviews on YOUTUBE) and create up to 2 cards per class.

Artist: Kahori Kamiya “Darling, Stay Close”

Kahori Kamiya’s paintings and sculptures explore an otherworldly sense of collective memory, quiet longing, and the unseen emotional layers carried through one’s body; these core themes are present in her new exhibit, “Darling, Stay Close,” Kamiya’s works invite viewers into a space where closeness is felt rather than declared, shaped by a quiet depth in layers that settle beneath the surface and a sense of distance that feels almost touchable, yet remains just out of reach.

As its title declares, the exhibition centers on the word “Darling,” a term that carries a wide emotional range. Beyond romantic affection, it can be addressed to a child, a memory, a ghost or ancestor, an inner voice, or even a voice from nature. It’s a tender call whose recipient is never fully defined, and this ambiguous intimacy forms the conceptual core of the exhibition.

ARTIST: RUBEN TOMAS - “IN BETWEEN”

Ruben Tomas is a photographer who works on a level above instinct. His subjects are not people, natural landscapes, or animals. Rather, his subject is the elusive connection between himself and what is going on around him. Inner lives seem to appear along the surfaces of bodies: eyes in partial shadow, wet hair giving temporary dimension to a face as it is drying, a mask that shows more than it hides. Ruben’s signature style is unmistakable.

The show features paintings and sculptures by artist Kahori Kamiya, whose work dissolves the boundaries between self, memory, and other. A co-exhibition features the work of Spanish photographer Ruben Tomas: provocative storytelling through the lens of soulful intuition.

GRIT Gallery’s Upcoming Exhibit “I Have Been Here All Along” Is About Reclaiming One’s Voice, Space, and Power

The new work features photography and illustrations that represent struggles the participating artists endured, transforming vulnerability into an emblem of power.

“I Have Been Here All Along” is a collaboration between photographer Erin Braden and illustrator Andre Junget, united for the first time to present a body of work that evokes a striking dialogue on identity, visibility, and the concept of self. The show runs May 16 through July 5 at GRIT Gallery in Newburgh, NY.

The artists both utilize their medium as a reclamation of space and voice after traumatic lived experiences. Erin Braden’s photographic works are primarily n**e self-portraits that use the body as both medium and message, transforming the vulnerable format into a bold expression of self-empowerment and radical acceptance.“Each photograph carries emotional immediacy while maintaining a refined aesthetic sensibility, balancing softness with quiet strength,” she says.

Andre Junget’s series of hand-drawn works examine the tension between his authentic self and the public identity shaped or restricted by authority. His drawings represent the unseen self, creating strong expressions where a voice was previously silenced. The gallery will be filled with his paintings and pastels and drawings to create a visual balance.

The final piece to the puzzle was completed when the two artists creatively collide in a photography installation that tells both of their remarkable stories in real time. Together, their works create a cohesive and conceptually sophisticated exhibition that speaks to themes of autonomy, identity, and psychological depth.

Open weekends from 1 to 5 showing through May 10Th!!

Grit Works Gallery proudly presents Hive Mind, a dynamic exhibition of encaustic artwork by Carol Flaitz, Lisa Pressman, and Cynthia Winika, on view from March 14 through May 10, 2026. Bringing together three accomplished women artists working in the ancient and luminous medium of encaustic, the exhibition celebrates individual vision while highlighting a shared material language rooted in process, nature, and transformation.
The exhibition opens on Saturday, March 14, with a public reception from 4–6 pm, featuring live music by the New York School of Music.
All three artists work with encaustic, an elegant and enduring medium made from beeswax and damar resin combined with fine pigments and applied to absorbent surfaces using heat. Known for its depth, translucency, and tactile richness, encaustic allows for layering, revision, and the visible passage of time—qualities that resonate strongly throughout Hive Mind.
