Tahquamenon Logging Museum

Tahquamenon Logging Museum Situated on 29 acres on the shores of the Tahquamenon River, the museum features artifacts from Michigan's early days of lumbering.

Facilities include an authentic cook shack, original C.C.C. building, music pavilion, picnic area, nature trail, boardwalk and Gift Shop. Take a tour of the museum, see a slide presentation of early logging in Michigan, view the many artifacts, visit an original family dwelling, take a walk down the nature trail and stroll the boardwalk which takes you to a spectacular view of the Tahquamenon Rive

Volunteers don't necessarily have the time---they have the heart.

Today, those many hands flipped pancakes, scrambled eggs, poured coffee, washed dishes, kept the bacon coming, smiled through the rush, and somehow made it all look easy.

Here's what a morning of organized lumberjack chaos looked like:

🥞 425 breakfasts served!

🍳 68 dozen eggs
🥓 80 pounds of bacon
🌭 50 pounds of sausage
🥔 150 pounds of potatoes
🥞 60 pounds of our special pancake mix
🍊 12 gallons of orange juice
🍎 6 gallons of apple juice
🥛 Enough milk to keep everyone happy.

☕ Coffee? We lost count after four giant cans of brew. At that point, we simply switched to measuring it in smiles and conversations.

None of this happens without volunteers who willingly trade a relaxing Saturday morning for hot griddles, early alarm clocks, and happy customers. They work hard, laugh a lot, and somehow keep the pancakes—and the good humor—coming.

If you enjoyed breakfast today, the best way to thank them is to come back next month... hungry.

And if you've ever wondered what it's feels like to be part of a wonderful group doing something meaningful for the community, we'd love to have you join us. Many hands really do make light work—and they make really good pancakes, too.

SAVE THE DATE!

NEXT Saturday, July 25, The Tahquamenon Logging Museum will be open for business with our famous and delicious Lumberjack Breakfast.

This all-you-can-eat delicacy remains at the inflation-busting price of $15 for adults 13 and up, $6 for kids 6-12 while children under 5 eat free! Doors open at 7AM and if you are a late sleeper, breakfast is served until noon!

Flapjack Emergency at the Logging Museum 🚨

Attention all good-deed doers, pancake enthusiasts, coffee pourers, and people who simply enjoy helping a great cause.

The Tahquamenon Logging Museum is in dire need of volunteers for our Lumberjack Breakfast on Saturday, June 27.

We aren't asking you to fell a pine tree with an axe or wrestle a bear before breakfast (though extra credit if you can). We simply need helping hands in the kitchen, food prep volunteers, servers, and folks willing to help keep the crowd moving and the flapjacks flying.

These breakfasts are our main source of income and help fund our ongoing mission of preserving the museum's historic buildings, artifacts, and logging heritage. Without them, it becomes much harder to maintain the place that keeps this important piece of Upper Peninsula history alive.

To be completely honest, the need is urgent. For the first time in memory, we may have to cancel a breakfast because we don't have enough volunteers. Many of our longtime helpers have retired from active duty after years of faithful service, and we need a new crew to grab the spatula.

The breakfast runs from 7 a.m. to noon, but we also need a few brave souls willing to help fire up the woodstove at 5 a.m. Volunteers are needed for all shifts, and no experience is required. If you can smile, carry a plate, pour coffee, or point someone toward the syrup, you're qualified.

Did You Hear the News?

The Lumberjack Breakfasts are back at the Tahquamenon Logging Museum!

Join us for the first feast of the season on Saturday, June 27, from 7:00 a.m. to Noon.
Come hungry. Really hungry.

We'll be serving all-you-care-to-eat flapjacks, eggs, cottage fries, sausage, bacon, and plenty of coffee, milk, and juice to wash it all down. If you leave hungry, that's probably on you.

As you're planning your summer adventures, mark your calendar. Lumberjack Breakfasts will be held on the last Saturday of June, July, August, and September.

These breakfasts don't happen by accident. We are always looking for volunteers to help make them a success. You'll be working alongside a terrific group of people who share a passion for preserving the history of the logging era and keeping this special place alive.

If you'd like to support the museum, please consider becoming a member or making a donation. Historic buildings have a funny way of constantly needing attention. If you're handy with a hammer, saw, paintbrush, or just willing to lend a hand, we'd love to hear from you.

Exciting News

We are pleased to announce that the Tahquamenon Logging Museum has received a grant from the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. This funding will allow us to begin construction of a new pavilion to help preserve and display important pieces of our logging heritage for future generations.

Don't forget that the museum grounds are open for tours from May through September. We also offer affordable camping and host a variety of special events throughout the season.
