In our 15th year, the NYC Poetry Festival: A Modern Odyssey is crossing the wine-dark sea (or, you know, the East River) for yet another epic homecoming to Governors Island.

Feeling overcome with excitement? Fear not! PSNY Intern Zoë Brita (zoë) has put together a special edition of How To Poet to make sure you get the best possible experience at PoFest.

Although the number of events to attend, readings to hear, and vendors to try may seem overwhelming, this guide is sure to help you be prepared!

Packing for PoFest and don’t know what to bring? Check out our guide at our link in bio

The NYC Poetry Festival will take place as scheduled, rain or shine. We are closely monitoring both the weather and wildfire conditions, and KN95 masks will be available onsite. Additional masks are available free of charge at your local library.

If you plan to attend PoFest, please register in advance so we can keep you informed of any important last-minute updates!

We are grateful to for spending the afternoon with our community to talk about her work and for continuing to champion thoughtful writing about artists and culture!

Robin captivated a standing-room-only crowd here at Pen + Brush surrounding by the sharing stories from her lifetime spent loving art, observing, questioning, documenting, rooting, and expanding the lens of the cultural moment as it unfolds.

For those who missed the talk, a reminder that Robin has generously made more than 150 of her articles freely accessible through her online archive on her website, a remarkable resource for anyone who wants to better understand how our current field was shaped and how art, artists, and institutions grapple with, care for the conversations of our time.

There were so many rich, funny, humble, and deeply fascinating stories shared throughout the afternoon, but one of our favorite takeaways was Robin’s answer to artist question: “what helped you to overcome the barriers the often hold women back in the art world?” Robin answered: “you have to be braver than brave… and then be brave again.” Here’s to Robin and we may we all be this brave 🥂🥳!

"Two major biennials now unfold across Manhattan, each offering a distinct vision of what contemporary art can be when the world itself feels unsettled. At the southern edge of the island, the Whitney Biennial occupies the luminous architecture of the Whitney Museum of American Art, continuing a tradition that has shaped the narrative of American art for nearly a century. Uptown, conversely, the Every Woman Biennial has taken hold inside the expansive galleries of Pen + Brush, where its sixth edition, SPECTALiA, radiates with a far more combustible and celebratory energy.
