Nunu Fine Art New York is pleased to present “Until Harvest”, Purvai Rai’s first solo exhibition with the gallery as part of our “Project Space: Asian Voices "program.

Delhi-based multimedia artist Purvai Rai’s (b.1994) practice is deeply connected to her ancestral land in Punjab. Her interest in ecologies, community, architecture, orality, and land is not just academic but deeply personal.

She is committed to absorbing the essence of her generational land, family stories, and their living archive to unearth the transformative power of traditional knowledge systems and community collaborations. Her work delves into the themes of memory, identity, and materiality, which are intricately woven into her land's (contemporary and historical) socio-political, cultural, and spatial realities. Rai’s work reflects the fragmentation of this land and the psycho-spiritual and imaginative landscapes that emerge from exploring placemaking through an auto-ethnographic lens while navigating the complex histories of colonialism, feudalism, and capitalism.

Marta Katavić’s First Exhibition in Asia — “Shadows and Steel” Opens in 6 Days!

Last summer, our founder Nunu Hung visited the Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb in Croatia, where she encountered Marta Katavić’s solo exhibition. Deeply moved by the works, she immediately decided to bring a curated selection to our gallery in Taipei.

At the heart of Katavić’s practice lies her innovative approach to portraiture. Her oil paintings of everyday scenes focus on individuals whose faces and bodies are intentionally obscured, imbuing them with a universal quality that transcends a specific identity. The exhibition brings together both figurative oil paintings on canvas as well as abstract landscapes on stainless steel and metallic paper, creating a dialogue between figuration and abstraction.

We warmly invite you to join us for the opening on Saturday, June 14, from 3 to 5 PM. The artist will be present and will give a guided tour at 3:30 PM.

| Venue: Nunu Fine Art Taipei

“This cartoonish quality thus appears repeatedly. But it’s certainly not all that interests Kuo. In a close view, all his surfaces are subtly attractive. Some surfaces look whittled, and dark colors other than black are not a single tone but mottled shades. All encourage slow looking.” - Janet Koplos

A heartfelt thank you to Ceramics: Art + Perception Magazine and Janet Koplos for covering Shida Kuo “Work 1993-2023”. The review thoughtfully details their appreciation of Shida Kuo’s artworks and the playful imaginations they evoke.

It’s the last week to see “Everything Just As You Left It.” exhibition at Nunu Fine Art Taipei !

In “Everything Just As You Left It”, each artist engages memory as material or as a guiding concept. Through myriad techniques—whether painting, thread-wrapping, sculpture, or collage—they transform personal histories, cultural symbols, and even mundane objects into works of art that challenge the truths of our recollections and invites us to rethink the role of cultural memory in shaping both identity and society.

We’re deeply grateful for the heartfelt responses and resonance this exhibition has received. Your willingness to engage with the artists’ memories, emotions, and narratives has brought the works to life in ways we couldn’t have imagined. As we approach the close of this show, we invite those who haven’t yet visited to experience it.

“Adalsteinsdottir’s brushstrokes hold up a mirror to the complexities of our existence.” - Xintian Wang for the Brooklyn Rail

We came across this beautiful piece in the March 2024 issue of The Brooklyn Rail—a thoughtful review by Xintian Wang on Thordis Adalsteinsdottir’s exhibition at Nunu Fine Art.

Wang captured Thordis’s world with such clarity and sensitivity, unfolding the themes of her work in a way that deepens how we see and feel it.

As our founder Nunu Hung likes to say, “A thoughtful text can open up new layers of imagination in the way we see art.”

We're grateful to and for this generous reading and for giving the exhibition another life through words.

——Xintian Wang,《Brooklyn Rail》

Rose Wylie draws from her observations of daily life and popular culture, taking images that inspire her, filtering and reorganizing her memories, then interpreting them into a visual diary that is structurally concise and full of liveliness. In Camel and Monkey, Wylie captures a scene of childlike playfulness through intuitive brushstrokes. From the cutting and pasting of the paper, one can see the process of Wylie's painting, in which she repeatedly covers and collages until she creates a satisfactory image. The creative process is thus presented in the painting, which becomes a part of the artwork itself. This piece demonstrates how she transforms her inner emotions and everyday observations into images, vividly expressing a visual language that moves between memory and intuition.

“The precision and discipline of Eastern script merge with the natural choreography of salsa and merengue and the colors and light characteristic of Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. This fusion is a robust visual dialogue and a metaphor for the cultural and political mestizaje that defines her lived experience.” -Yohanna M Roa
Always drifting back to Taiwan through music, Mimian Hsu visually translates Jacky Cheung’s song “I Waited Until the Flowers Wilted” into Spanish, bridging music, memory, and language, tracing a path between the words passed down and the ones lived in. The work honors her grandmother’s 50-year wait for news of her husband’s fate, while reflecting Hsu’s own journey to reconnect with her Taiwanese heritage through acts of love and care.
A heartfelt thank you to INES Magazina and Yohanna M. Roa for featuring “Mimian Hsu: Everyone is Asking “.

Caroline Monnet’s film Creatura Dada is currently featured in the spring exhibitions of The Image Centre at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). With both Anishinaabe and French ancestry, as well as a background in sociology and communications, Monnet is a multidisciplinary artist creating sculptures, installations, and films that explore the Indigenous identity and the impacts of colonialism. In Creatura Dada, six francophone Indigenous women are gathered around a dining table, Caroline Monnet utilizes Dadaist techniques of collage, montage, and assemblage to present this scene as a celebration of Indigenous women’s identity and cultural heritage.

Monnet’s solo exhibition will be hosted by Nunu Fine Art, New York this fall.

Its Mandarin name adapted from the IT equipment “router” representing the gallery’s vision to act as a platform for converging and sharing information, just as the device does, gathering the cream of essence of European, North American and South East Asian contemporary art, and providing a brand new sphere for Taiwanese contemporary art lovers. Nunu Fine Art not only represents internationally recognized artists long endorsed by museums such as the MET, MoMA, le Centre Pompidou, Tate London, but also mid-career artists from Taiwan, South East and North East Asia. Most importantly, we look up to historic art patrons and how they have discovered and nurtured generation after generation of brilliant new artists.
