Now here's some good news!!

Dear friend (and star of my third film, For They Know Not What They Do) Sarah McBride has won the democratic primary for Delaware's single house seat. She's been an incredible advocate for the people of Delaware in the state senate, and when she's elected in November, she'll be incredible in Congress!!

Sarah McBride, a Delaware state senator, is favored to win in November. She would become the first openly transgender member of Congress.

One of the biggest dangers of social media and the 24-hour opinion stations on both sides is that they have seduced America into becoming a culture of contempt. America has been radicalized.

The level of mockery and insult I see on Facebook today after the U.S. debate is seriously disconcerting for the future of our democracy. Echo chambers are very dangerous places.

No one on the other side ever changed their mind after being humiliated and mocked. In fact, those behaviours almost always lead folks to become MORE entrenched in their views.

It's time that we evolve to a place where we can discuss our differences of opinion with dignity and respect without devolving into insult and nastiness. Otherwise, our democracy is in serious trouble from both sides.

These are the incredible humans who worked with us over two weeks at Duke to develop a new play based on FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO and For They Know Not What They Do.

It was a crazy, informative, fascinating and challenging process...and I couldn't be more grateful to each and every one of them!

Amazing Full-Circle Moment: In the fall of 1983, I was a freshman at Duke University, and I took my first acting class in this building...in 209 East Duke. Many other acting classes and auditions would happen in that room during my time as an undergraduate.

Tomorrow, we start a two-week development workshop of a new play I've co-created with Javier de Frutos inspired by two of my films, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO and For They Know Not What They Do. We will work with five Duke students and seven local theater artists, and all of our work will happen in the room where it all started 40 years ago, 209 East Duke on the east campus of Duke University.

A deep bow of gratitude to my dear friends Jeffrey Storer and Anthony Kelley for helping to make this happen!

Tomorrow in Kunshan, Jiangsu, China, there's a screening of For They Know Not What They Do at Duke Kunshan University, and I'm excited to be joining the group via Zoom afterwards for an extended Q&A session.

It's a very controversial film in China, so I am extremely grateful to students of Duke Kunshan for making this happen!
