Cristina Vergano’s fantastical scenes, with their golden horizons and hybrid, otherworldly characters, create a dreamlike atmosphere that leaves viewers hovering on the edge between what is real and what is imagined—a subtle nod to the 1635 play from which the exhibition takes its name.

PASSAGE and MARITIME, two large-scale light installations by artist Grimanesa Amorós, are currently on view as part of Art in Resonance at The Peninsula Istanbul and Contemporary Istanbul’s 20th Anniversary. Presented by The Peninsula Hotels, the works continue Amorós’s exploration of the relationship between technology, architecture, and the natural environment. Together, these works form a single narrative: light as a vessel connecting people, place, and memory.

Installed in The Peninsula’s historic clock tower, PASSAGE reflects on time and Istanbul’s role as a crossroads of migration. The building was once home to Çinili Han—the former passenger hall where travelers awaited transit—and this space was deeply embedded in the rhythms of migration, serving as a site that regulated human flow. By reactivating this location through light, Amorós highlights how built environments retain collective histories, even as their functions evolve. Red illumination evokes the city’s cultural pulse; from imperial heritage to contemporary vitality, all while reflecting on the dualities of departure and arrival, memory and presence.

Inside the hotel’s lobby hangs, MARITIME, evoking the rhythms of the Bosphorus emphasizing the strong tides and seafoam—bringing the outside currents within. The light sculpture’s form suggests a globe yet resists fixed borders, alluding instead to the fluidity of identity. The piece twists and turns internally, exploring the delicate ecosystem of the sea. This artwork prompts us to confront what is vanishing. It’s the light sequence, like its form, pulses as if a siren from the ocean calls us all to remind its viewer that change is possible and necessary.

Tourné is pleased to present Llanor Alleyne: A Retrospective. The exhibition, which runs August 1 to August 31, charts the evolution of Alleyne’s collage making between 2018 and the present.

A multidisciplinary artist, Alleyne describes collaging as “world building.” Each piece combines illustration, abstract painting, cutting, tearing, and layering to form complex and evocative compositions. Her practice, drawing on her Caribbean roots as well as her experiences in the United Kingdom and the United States, explores themes of inversion, fragmentation, and reconstruction while bridging cultural narratives, environmental concerns, and the emotional resonance of form and texture.

Alleyne is featured in the permanent collection of the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art in New York, and is included in Nature’s Wild, an exhibition originally scheduled to debut at the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington, DC that is now heading to Toronto, Canada. Her work has appeared in numerous publications, and her collage, “Respite of the Black Madonnas,” was recently featured in HAMMER & HOPE magazine.

We are deeply honored that our founder, Javier Tourné, had the opportunity to speak at the United Nations General Assembly last week on connecting cultures in the digital era.

Against the backdrop of a technological revolution that is quite literally altering what it means to be human, the interactive discussion centered on vital questions including: How can digital transformation help preserve and promote cultural traditions? Can digital spaces create a truly global, inclusive culture that advances international cooperation and creative economies? What policies are needed to ensure that culture contributes to the achievement of sustainable development?

A heartfelt thank you to H.E. Philemon Yang, President of the General Assembly, for the invitation, Marloes Lagerweij of UNESCO for the introduction, H.E. Mahmoud, Permanent Representative of Egypt to the UN, for moderating such a vibrant dialogue, and the many distinguished panelists, UN Member States, and civil society organizations who participated in the discussion.

Tourné is pleased to announce the acquisition of Llanor Alleyne’s “Another Poem” () by the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art in New York, NY.

Alleyne’s large-scale mixed media work was part of the museum’s 2024 exhibition, The Plural of He, dedicated to the life and work of Colin Robinson, the Trinidadian American poet, critic, and social justice advocate. Alleyne was one of five artists selected in 2022 for a residency at the museum.

Andil Gosine, curator of The Plural of He, said of the acquisition:

“Llanor was the first artist I commissioned for the exhibition, because her work is so beautifully composed, so subtle and understated in its intentions, but also so inviting to an audience to find her story, and theirs. That ‘Another Poem’ grew from her multiple connections to Colin’s work — his poetry, of course, but also his HIV/AIDS and LGBT activism, and his formative years in Trinidad — made it an ideal piece for the museum to add to their permanent collection. It’s a work that speaks to Colin’s significance and represents an important stage of development in Llanor’s practice, which will only grow by leaps and bounds.”

Alleyne is a Barbados-born, New York-raised mixed media artist who describes collaging as “world building,” supporting her own journey of self-discovery and reinvention. In 2017, her collages were exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, NY. Her work is also included in Nature’s Wild, an exhibition originally scheduled to debut at the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington, DC that is now heading to Toronto, Canada. Alleyne’s work has appeared in numerous publications and her collage, “Respite of the Black Madonnas,” was recently featured in HAMMER&HOPE magazine.

Meet Llanor Alleyne, a Barbados-born, New York-raised mixed media artist whose work explores the transformation and transfiguration of female selfhood. Llanor Alleyne’s collages and illustrations explore metaphorical and physical inversion, often employing tearing, cutting, and layering of abstract, figurative, and floral shapes to
interrogate empathetic feminine connections to nature while alluding to emotional disruptions that teem just beyond a first or second glance. Influenced by her surroundings as well as imagined landscapes, Llanor creates abstract paintings and drawings on mylar and paper that are the basis of her collages.

Llanor’s recent work “Tea & Empathy” (photo 1, 30” x 44”) explores the impact of Type 2 Diabetes on Black women in Barbados. The mixed-media collage was commissioned for “In the Flesh: Critical Reflections on Black Women’s Experiences of Food, Embodiment, and Type 2 Diabetes,”an interdisciplinary research project spearheaded by Drs. Tonya Haynes (University of the West Indies) and Nicole Charles (University of Toronto - Mississauga) — the piece reflects both the cultural and personal dimensions of the disease. Through the use of vibrant botanicals, historical references, and figurative symbolism, the work addresses traditional healing, community support, and the emotional toll of managing diabetes.

“Three for Tea” (image 2, 30” x 22”) is part of Llanor’s “Moonlight” narrative collage series, an homage to black women at play, and in communion with each other and the natural world. “At the Shore” (image 3, 22” x 15”) is part of the related “Moonlight Blues” series, with smaller sized collages depicting moments of solace and respite in the natural world.

“Rachel” (image 3, 10” x 10”) and “Helena” (image 4, 10” x 10”) belong to Llanor’s “My Girls” collage series. These collages are part of Llanor’s ongoing practice of expanding her visual vocabulary through creation of collages with “leftover” paintings. The series was first featured in her solo exhibition “Written in the Body” at the Frame & Art Gallery in Barbados.

Tourné, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, is pleased to host a reception in honor of Lorenzo Puglisi’s solo exhibition, “Painting in New York,” at the Italian Cultural Institute on Thursday, February 13th. The exhibition, curated by Guicciardo Sassoli de’ Bianchi, features a collection of paintings created this year during the artist’s ten-day residency at the Italian Cultural Institute.

“Painting in New York” marks Lorenzo Puglisi’s U.S. debut. His powerful, mysterious figures emerge from absolute darkness on the canvas. The brushstrokes, in shades of white and red, simulate streams of light that define volumes, faces, and body parts, hinting at an expression or a gesture and evoking the essence of historical paintings. In recent years, Puglisi has focused his practice on large format canvases related to great masterpieces of the past. In 2019, on the occasion of his solo exhibition Il Grande Sacrificio in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Puglisi exhibited a nearly 20-foot-long oil painting on wood depicting his vision of The Last Supper to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death. His work was exhibited in the same room as da Vinci’s original masterpiece. Puglisi’s work has been widely exhibited, including at the 59th Venice Biennale on the island of San Servolo, the Latvian National Museum of Art in Riga, the Basilica of Santo Spirito in Florence, and Le Gallerie degli Uffizi, also in Florence, where his self-portrait recently entered the permanent collection at the request of the museum’s director Eike Schmidt.

To attend the reception, kindly RSVP to [email protected] or at the link on our story as space is limited.
