Introducing the Juror of Awards of the 98th Grand National Exhibition: Michael Shane Neal, a renowned American portrait artist celebrated for his masterful traditional oil paintings.
Influenced by the Old Masters, Neal skillfully captures the character and essence of his subjects through rich light, shadow, and color.
Since starting his career at age 21, Michael Shane oNeal has completed over 600 commissioned portraits, including those of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Presidents George H.W. Bush and Joseph R. Biden, Congressman John Lewis (now in the Smithsonian), Morgan Freeman, and numerous senators, judges, and governors.
A protégé of Everett Raymond Kinstler, Neal maintains a historic studio in Manhattan’s National Arts Club.
He serves as Chairman of the Portrait Society of America, has received major awards, and has taught aspiring artists for over 30 years.

We are pleased to continue the choice of ‘on-line only’ or ‘in-gallery’ for all entries. Highly ranked entries that expressly choose to be ‘on-line only’ will be exhibited virtually as Finalists. Semi-Finalists will be showcased on the AAPL website.

Founded in 1928 by a group of artists at the Salmagundi Club, American Artists Professional League is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing realism in American fine art.
