Barbara Mathes Gallery is pleased to announce our participation in Art Basel Miami Beach 2024. We will be at booth H5.

This year, we will devote a section of our booth to pioneering mid-century female dealers such as Peggy Guggenheim, Betty Parsons, Martha Jackson, and Eleanor Ward, who championed women artists at a time when doing so was an exception.

Inspired by Guggenheim’s pioneering “Exhibition by 31 Women” in 1943, this section will include works by:

Louise Bourgeois
Helen Frankenthaler
Agnes Martin
Irene Rice Pereira
Hedda Sterne
Yvonne Thomas

Additionally, our booth will feature important paintings and works on paper by:

Etel Adnan
Frank Bowling
Ed Clark
Sam Gilliam
Richard Pousette-Dart

Opening April 25:

Barbara Mathes Gallery is pleased to announce Americans in Paris, an exhibition exploring the influence of Paris on generations of 20th century American artists. United by an interest in abstraction, these artists absorbed the lessons of both French Impressionism and the avant-garde. They explored museums and galleries, and established dialogues with French and expatriate artists and writers. As a result of their exposure to the city, they developed their artistic languages in ways that transformed American art.
