👏🏾 A FIRST GENERATION 👏🏾 STORY 👏🏾 Baby, when it comes to being the first at anything, there’s no such thing as creating on a pre stretched canvas. You’ve gotta get the stretchers and stretch that canvas yourself. And it feels messy. And at times, unsupported. Because sometimes it feels like you’re doing it all by yourself. If you’re in the messy middle, I’m right there with you. This Black History Month, I’m getting real about my journey, my experiences, and how I’ve navigated being a first generation artist. Being the first is about rising every time you fall. It’s about never giving up. It’s about affirming what you see in your mind before you see it in reality. But the harshness of being the first, the trials and tribulations, can add pressure. That pressure can create perfectionism, and perfectionism can create a harsh inner critic. I just want you to know, you’re not alone in that. We’re creating, even painting, a new reality we’ve never seen before. Whether it’s in our bloodlines, our cultures, or even our fields. Stick around for this series. Turn on your post notifications 🔔 Because what’s about to be painted on this canvas is about to get real… real good.
