Now on view at Sims Contemporary, In Bloom, a floral triptych by artist Alison Diamond McElroy ().

Alison’s intricate, layered and textural works are inspired by her connection to the natural world. Through repeating colors and patterns, her paintings evoke a complex visual landscape that draw the viewer in. As she creates each layer of her work she often thinks back on past experiences, allowing the layered quality of the human experience to inform each new addition to the canvas.

This piece is on view through February 28th 🌷

This exhibition is a meditation on quiet transitions: on the beauty of slowing down, of returning to the soil that once carried us forward. Through botanicals, landscapes, and the tender gestures of natural form, these works explore the grace of letting go and how life continues to bloom even in stillness.

On view now at Sims Contemporary, two works by artist Brittany Emory,

Emory is a mixed media painter based in Newtown, Massachusetts. Through capturing the light cast upon tree branches and plants, her abstract shadow paintings in oil evoke a sense of wonder and awe. At first glance, these pieces convey a sense of colorful luminosity and radiance through their contrast. As the viewer lingers, the works lead us to contemplate the fleeting nature of time and how light shifts throughout the day. Emory’s practice as a whole revolves around her exploration of the landscape in varying degrees of abstraction.

The Persistence of Shadows, The Language of Light is on view until January 31st at Sims Contemporary ✨

Sal Taylor Kydd is a photographic artist and writer based in Rockport, Maine. Her imagery and poetry are interweaved with one another, creating a world that is layered and expansive. Through her work, she takes an interest in the narratives of personal history, memory, and the search for connection to the natural world.

These three images embody the meditative process of slowing down, paying attention to one’s surroundings, and connecting to the earth.

The Persistence of Shadows: The Language of Light is on view through January 31st at 509, West 23rd St in Chelsea, NYC.

The Persistence of Shadows: The Language of Light

Light and shadow are inseparable companions. One gives form to the other, each insisting on its presence through contrast.
