In SCALE, Alexander May distills space to its essence, where form, texture, and restraint invite a slower kind of looking. Visit the gallery until October 10th to see rare works of 20th-century French design are reimagined through a contemporary lens.

On view: SCALE

Charlotte Perriand’s Tokyo bench, Boris Anastassievitch’s Homme Assis, Le Corbusier’s LCII wall lamp, and a Jacques Pouchain bowl: all in quiet conversation beneath the gaze of a 2015 Alexander May painting.

A study in restraint: steel curves, woven raffia, and the cool confidence of French modernism. From Mallet-Stevens to Sognot, each piece hold its own — with quiet conviction.

The gallery will be closed tomorrow for Juneteenth, but come by on Friday for the last day of The Geometry of Modernity.

This stunning 1920s chest of drawers comes from a villa in the South of France by architect André Barbier-Bouvier, with interiors by Eileen Gray and Marcel Coard. Paired here with a Francis Jourdain lamp — whose work inspired Jean Royère for his lamp “Géniale” — and armchairs attributed to Maison Dominique for a striking vignette of Modern design.

The weather’s dull, but the gallery isn’t. Show ends this week, come see it.
