Wu Art Studio An up and coming artist from Shanghai, with over 50 years of art experience. Continues to take sketc

An Impressionist artist from Shanghai, China living in the 21st century. Despite modern art trends, Zhong-Yi Wu has developed his classic art in a period in which it is considered a lost skill. His art pushes the boundaries of what we consider the norm for art today, in which we can begin to regard him as sort of an avant-garde artist. Having over 40 years of art experience, Wu specializes in wate

rcolor, oil paintings, and pastel and charcoal sketches. With a primary expertise in landscapes, Wu has become famous throughout Staten Island through his portraits that seem to bring pictures to life through charcoal. If you are looking to get a portrait drawn or have any other artistic request, feel free to come in or contact us directly through Facebook.

34 years ago today, Mr. Wu opened his first solo exhibition featuring his watercolors. Up until that point, many people had thought that this wouldn't be approved of by the Communist Party. The idea of having your own exhibition was considered "capitalist" or self-serving which contradicted the Manifesto. But Mr. Wu thought differently. He had a dream to become famous and was determined to raise the funds to open his exhibit.

After finding the funds to rent out the Ren Min Park Exhibition Hall, he opened his exhibit on November 5, 1983. It was this day that would change his life forever and in a sense, the world of art in Shanghai. Many of the city's famous artists, reporters, government officials, and notable figures visited the exhibition hall. Many came in admiration of his work, others to support a young man's dream to become famous as they had once did, and others came to watch this resilient artist challenge social norms.
