Saul Steinberg began making paper bag masks in 1959. In our recent e-catalogue for "Eyes Wide Open: Saul Steinberg and Philip Guston," art historian Antonia Pocock described the masks as “emblems of the artifice of identity.”

"This is a show that promises to blow your mind, and it lives up to that threat. Trippy, disturbing, entertaining, and whimsical all at once, it is a marvelous look at a figure whose gleefully anarchic work called for the end of culture as we know it." - ARTnews Magazine

Less than one month left to see "BRUCE CONNER: IT'S ALL TRUE" at MoMA The Museum of Modern Art, on view through October 2nd.
