A rare early 19th century Masonic tracing board I purchased for my collection.
Oil on canvas in period mahogany frame.
Featured in the book ‘Symbols in the Wilderness: Early Masonic Survivals in Upstate New York’ by J. Godwin and C. Goodwillie.
Book Citation: ‘Hamilton ‘C’ is an open, linear composition with an economical use of color, reminiscent of Shaker paintings....In the lowest story we can see the master seated at his table, working with a tracing board. Around him are three candles on pedestals, representing the three Lesser Lights...The second story contains the Immovable Jewels...The third story contains the death symbols: skull, crossbones, spade, and coffin...’

Me and got back home to Las Vegas just in time for some fantastic news.

City Council voted unanimously to approve a resolution granting the Las Vegas Museum of Art and a 15,000 square foot space in Symphony Park for the museum’s forthcoming Media Lab, introducing exhibitions, public programs and a preview of the forthcoming building designed by Pritzker Laureate

Cat’s out of the bag… I’m excited to announce my new role at Sotheby’s as Vice Chairman of Popular Culture. This position brings together a lifelong obsession with pop culture—film, music, comic, records, and more—with decades of experience as a collector and advisor. I’m looking forward to the chance to reframe the conversation around the memorabilia market and to place these objects where they belong: alongside the most celebrated categories in the art world, at one of the world’s best auction houses and working with my amazing friends and colleagues there.

This is one of the first times in decades that a major auction house has put a stake in the ground to make a serious commitment to highlight popular culture with the same institutional weight as modern and contemporary art. I’m proud to help lead that shift.

For those asking - YES, I’m still 100% active and engaged in my art advisory business, which remains completely independent. But if you know me, you know I’ve spent most of my very little free time collecting these pop culture items—so in some ways, this is just making it official.

My profile in the magazine comes out in print this Sunday. Had a great time with and doing this. As always I’m my candid self and having fun in my own environment. Very excited about future art and cultural things happening in Las Vegas. Other than NYC this is my adopted home city and grateful for all the amazing friends I have met here.
