The Children’s Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) is the vibrant home to 350,000 visitors a year from all segments of the NYC community and tourists from around the world. The museum’s educational mission in early childhood education, creativity, health and culture thrives within our home on 83rd Street and in dozens of communities across the city as well as through national initiatives with leading authorities and government agencies. Create #fun and #delicious recipes inspired by CMOM’s Inside Art (TM) exhibit. Families receive their own portion of colorful ingredients to create make- and- take recipes that the whole family will enjoy.

Join us for new art-making activities each week in the Superpowered Creators adventure tour for the whole month of February!

It is the year of the Ox! Celebrate the Lunar New Year at CMOM Wednesday, February 10th through Friday, February 12th and create a hanging lantern in the shape of an ox.

Modern artist Alexander Calder created hanging sculptures called mobiles using abstract shapes. Use heart shapes to design a Valentine’s day themed mobile inspired by Calder's sculptures. (Saturday, February 13th - Sunday, February 14th)

Artist Kehinde Wiley is known for his large-scale paintings of African Americans posing as famous figures from history. Create a presidential self-portrait inspired by nature and painter Wiley’s portrait of former President Barack Obama. (Monday, February 15th)

Aaron Douglas was an American visual artist and major figure of the Harlem Renaissance. His murals addressed issues around race and segregation and played with color and transparency. Layer tissue paper like paint to create your own artwork inspired by Douglas' technique. (Wednesday, February 17th - Friday, February 19th)

Our Story

We do what is good for children. By creating experiences at the intersection of the arts, sciences and the humanities, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) helps children and families thrive at home, at school, and in the community. These experiences include exhibitions, classes, workshops, performances, and festivals. Based on research, evaluation, and testing, our programs and exhibits are designed to address the multiple ways children learn and to help parents understand and support their children’s development. The Museum’s special areas of focus—selected for their ability to benefit children throughout their lives—include early childhood education, creativity, health, and world cultures.

Founded in 1973 by parents as a grassroots, neighborhood organization, the Children’s Museum flourished. Today it is a beloved citywide resource for children, family, and educators as well as a popular destination for visitors from around the world. Each year approximately 375,000 people visit our 38,000 square-foot learning facility on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Millions more benefit from the museum’s outreach programs at schools, libraries, homeless shelters, Head Start centers, and hospitals; its touring exhibitions; and its online tools and curricula.

Visitors can enjoy more than 80 workshops, classes, and performances free with admission to the Museum each week. Our professional development programs are available to parents, educators, childcare providers, and healthcare professionals as a means to share and reinforce learning with children and their families who may not be able to visit.
