This , we are revisiting MeeNa Park's solo exhibition "Gray Sky" in 2012 at DOOSAN Gallery New York. The exhibition features a painting and numerous drawings among her latest works.

Park sees the world as a simple color palettes and elements of anagram and dingbat. Anagram is a type of literary technique, the result of rearranging the letters of a word or phrase to produce a new phrase. Dingbat is a character used in computer industry, which is designated for symbolism. In Park’s works, the anagram and dingbat appear as if they are meaningful symbol or terminology, however, relevance between the image and title is blurred. The title is created by insignificant letters, and it is converted to dingbats on the painting. By using anagram, title has imbued its significance and dingbats itself creates an image.

This exhibition was accompanied by more than seventy-pencil-drawings of sun using different types of graphite on children’s coloring pages. In her drawings, the color has a characteristic of its own ‘colored’ object, rather than ‘color’ as visual perception. Park had worked with other color scheme, however, this was her first time of using gray from her color-palettes. Throughout this over all process, Park describes complexity of the contemporary art, furthermore, prevails a limitation of the existing communication system and linguistic barriers.

Sue Yon Hwang()'s solo exhibition "Material Manifestation" closes next Saturday, October 19th. The date is near, so don't miss it!...💣💥
When you visit the gallery during the afternoon in particular, you will notice that the doors at the front entrance of the gallery are tinted pink. We attached pink film on these doors as a way of using light to vitalize the space and to complement the dark tones of the works currently on view. Hwang improvisationally employed this pink film on her work, "Untitled" (2019).

Sue Yon Hwang's works experiment with the fragile materials such as paper, sand, and aluminum. Paper is one of the materials that she has long been delved into. 💥Material Manifestation💥 sheds light on her close attention to paper and explores its material features and Hwang's practice with it in her works.
During her stay in DOOSAN Residency New York, Hwang reproduced her early work, "A4 Drawing" (2007). Instaed of using A4 paper, Korean standard size paper, she uses the letter size paper as it is American standard size.
"Letter Drawing" (2019) is an important piece as the color of Hwang's paper sculptures stem from this work. “Letter Drawing,” which is originally “A4 Drawing,” developed into a colorful work, titled “Drawing for Average Rate” (2014). This piece is a transitional work covered with various pastel tones and became a bridge to create paper sculptures. Hwang digitally extracted the black and white tones from this work and printed out the paper to use it as a unique material for her work.

2012 DOOSAN Residency New York artist, MeeNa Park, is currently participating in a group exhibition, “Aging World - Will you still love me tomorrow?” at the Seoul Museum of Art () in Seoul. The exhibition examines rising social issues steming from the growing population of senior citizens in Korea.
MeeNa Park is currently engaged in a collaborative group called SMSM with Sasa [44], which consists of designers Sulki Choi and Min Choi, and is showcasing a collective work titled “Warning” in this exhibition.
The work is displayed on a purple printed wall, filled with codes that are difficult to decipher. Given the title and theme of the exhibition, the work allows viewers to assume that the codes might be a warning sign of the current demographic status as baby boomers begin turning 65, heralding a seismic change in population.
