A colleague from Sponsors for Educational Opportunity sent me a transcript of an interview I did with a high school student in my grammar and writing classes, with these words in bold: "Just in terms of thinking about language, in particular, and why we do this - like WHY do we study grammar, why do we study articulate expression? Again, it's the basis of freedom. It's a necessary condition for being a responsible citizen and active force of change. If we can't articulate what we believe in then we're kind of lost from the start." Yup, I still agree with myself on this one.
