I knew yesterday was my mother's birthday, but only remembered this morning she was born in 1924 and would have been 100. She and my dad were married on June 8, 1947, and I always had trouble keeping the two dates straight. Until, that is, I videotaped a family history interview several decades ago (never imagining it would be included in a film someday). The wedding ceremony took place in the Bronx apartment she grew up in, and she recalled being spitting mad for two reasons. First, because she had to hide out in her bedroom in full wedding dress for almost an hour so that arriving guests wouldn't see her. But even worse, the wedding got delayed by a week, and now she was getting married at the ripe old age of 23 instead of 22. All those years later she could laugh about it. Sort of. Happy 100th Mina Block, wherever you're hiding out now. I love you more than words can say.
