In 2008, Cristina Grajales presented José Parla's first solo, "Layered Days", at her Soho gallery.

José sent us this review from Art Seen Magazine just last week. (Seen in the second slide here)

"After the pieces had a chance to unfold, I began to sense that they are cast in a future tense. It is as if Parlá os already speaking of a time when all the languages of Babel will return to one."
- Joan Waltemath ()

On July 9th, José's first solo show in Detroit, Michigan opened at Library Street Collective. This current exhibition "Polarities" is on view at until August 24th.

The process behind "Big Woods". ()

Big Woods, a sculptural paean to the woodlands of Aaron Poritz's youth, marks this growth. Employing a variety of subtractive fabrication processes—hand and robotic carving, charring, and stack lamination—to make these functional forms in bleached ash and ancient oak, Aaron has produced a visual language all his own, evocative of body, plant, and landscape. Some of the pieces are supremely sensuous and sophisticated, while others are surprisingly raw and naïve. Together they reveal the full panoply of wood’s potential for expression.

Now more than ever, we look to Paula Hayes’ “Warriors” as inspiration.

The Warriors are meant to be victorious in a process, to keep trying, to leap in the unknown. Using only the simplest tools Paula had, knots and threads and dowels. The basic elements of weaving, a return to a fundamental ancient knotting technique. Her my simple self at play, the little warrior inside of us all!

On Thursday night, we had the joy and honor of hosting an intimate choral performance by Transcend, directed by Dr. Felix Graham at our Tribeca gallery.

Transcend (.sings ) is a New York-based trans / gender-expansive vocal ensemble. We are so happy to have spent this evening together during June, Pride Month. Their symphony of voices carried through our gallery in the most beautiful way.

Thank you to Randy Polumbo ( ) and Dr. Felix Graham ( ) for organizing this wonderful event.

We always strive to create an accessible space to foster appreciation for art and design, and felt that this story incapsulated our mission.

Betil Dagdelen's "Orly Chairs", Powder-coated steel with cotton, churro wool, and h**p. Hand-woven by Betil in her New Mexico studio, where she weaves yarn seats, backs and armrests, using the furnitures frame as the loom. Her expert woven patterns are inspired by her life experiences. Although Dagdelen is primarily self taught, she further developed her unique approach to weaving by apprenticing with indigenous weavers in New Mexico, Peru, and Turkey.

Dagdelen’s work mixes traditional weaving technologies with an improvisational approach to patterning. She boldly steps away from the loom in preference to weaving into and around sculpted forms. Dagdelen prefers to work with existing materials that have a story to them, and therefore uses yarn created traditionally by both Turkish and Navajo makers.

We are officially one week into celebrating 25 Days of Cristina Grajales!

For Day 7 we are highlighting series of stoneware and porcelain pieces. The largest of the three consists of smaller interlocking pieces, allowing the collector to actively create their own environment when displaying the work. Directly connecting the hand of the artist with the collector. The pieces are meant to be touched, feeling where James twisted, punched, pulled, penetrated and manipulated the clay body. The pieces are glazed and fired multiple times with locally sourced beach glass, which is crushed and added before the final firing.
