As an artist, I look to explore the boundaries and parallels between the digital world, the physical world, and paint.
Growing up in the midst of the technology boom of the 1990s has given me access to imagery and information that no previous generation has had before. I am able to reach out and look at a new world, much larger than the one that immediately surrounds me. I use the inspiration of both the physical and digital environments to influence my work. I create a catalog of compositional tools that reflect a world saturated with attention-grabbing commercial imagery and pattern; while still encouraging the viewer to create their own unique interpretations.
I interpret my work as creating portals into new fabricated worlds.
My main focus as of late is the evolution of my process and style. The center focus of each piece is to make it as visually stimulating as possible. I am always looking for new techniques, textures and patterns to add to my catalog of compositional tools. I use these tools while finding different ways of breaking up the canvas and maximize the use of the space. Utilizing my own experiences of the modern commercial world today and associating them with color, I make connections. To entice an immediate relationship with a piece, I use the association between color and emotion. Using known evidence that colors trigger different emotions and memories, I bring these feelings out with my palette. This is one reason color has recently been at the forefront of my work, which I believe will move it forward and allow me to create more feeling and representation.
