Title: Her, Wish Tree
Media: digital drawing created using Procreate
Original Size: 1668 × 2388 pxartist.her .Li.Navarro

My work is a digital collage painting inspired by Yoko Ono and her relationship with John Lennon. I chose to use photos of them from a time when they looked completely inseparable and happy. The piece is also inspired by Yoko& #39;s Wish Tree; I turned her hair into a tree not just because of how it looked in the photo, but to show how she has continued to grow and create as an artist. Hidden in the branches is a message that says, & #39;how I wish you were still here,& #39; written as if she said it herself. And with multiple hanging magnifying glass to emphasize that memory. I also included the image of her on the ladder, because that was the very first art piece John Lennon admired her for. This project is very personal to me. When my family lost my Grandfather to stage four cancer, seeing my Grandmother in that much pain made me really empathize with the losses Yoko Ono has felt. I’ve experienced my own losses too, so I really connected with her story.
