Ethan Cohen Gallery is pleased to present its first solo exhibition of Aleksandr Razin, entitled Sawdust Body / The Zoo, on view April 9 โ€“ May 22, 2022, Fridays through Sundays 12 โ€“ 6 pm, by appointment.

Aleksandr Razin is a conceptual artist who creates site-specific installations using industrial found materials to explore the relation between the environment and the individual. This exhibition showcases nine of Razinโ€™s sculptures that investigate mental illness through the characters of the Winnie-the-Pooh, the beloved childrenโ€™s tale created by A.A. Milne and E.H. Shepard.

Working with the theory that each Winnie-the-Pooh character symbolizes a certain mental disorder, Razin has created massive industrial site-specific installations to reveal intricacies of the full spectrum of human experience and the effect the urban landscape and the industrial environment has on mental disorders and human psychology.

Join us today at 2.45 at Ethan Cohen Gallery for a screening of Edwin Schlossbergโ€™s 1969 film Making Visible, followed by a discussion between the artist and Laura Whitcomb, author of Dilexi: A Gallery and Beyond.

--

Ethan Cohen Gallery is pleased to present a screening of Edwin Schlossbergโ€™s 1969 film Making Visible, which is part of the Dilexi Series, a collection of groundbreaking and radical video and film works made for television created by an array of influential artists. Broadcast in 1969, The Dilexi Series was one of the earliest projects where artists used television to disseminate their work to a wide public audience. Making Visible is a brilliant essayistic look at communications theory and the invisible potential of the television medium.

Following the screening of Making Visible, there will be an illuminating discussion between artist Edwin Schlossberg and Laura Whitcomb, curator and writer, moderated by Melik Kaylan, journalist, and cultural critic.

Whitcombโ€™s recent book Dilexi: A Gallery & Beyond will be available at the gallery for the event.

3 PM: Screening of โ€˜Making Visibleโ€™
3:30 PM: Discussion between Edwin Schlossberg and Laura Whitcomb, moderated by Melik Kaylan
