Inspired by Lorraine O’Grady: Both/And and John Edmonds: A sidelong Glance, Beyond the Frame is a celebration of Black and other POC queer and trans culture and the many rich histories that make our communities unique!💕💕
We’ve got some exciting pride trivia and will be hearing from an array of amazing artists, healers and practitioners, and performers! Come thru to Teen Night: Permissions of Truth this Friday @ 5-7:30 as we use our voices to pave the pathway for truth! Planned by BkM Teens, this month’s Teen Night is inspired by #HalfthePictureBKM and #FridaKahloBKM. 🔥Amazing talents include🔥 our resident DJ, Dj_InO, rappers @euphony.i.am and @omie.abd, & singers Aniahoo and @melena.canta. We'll also be hosting an 🔥Open Mic🔥 and moderating a panel discussion in our galleries, titled 🖤THE OTHER HALF🖤 on unapologetic expression with artist and political activist @snaybelle and rapper @taphari. In addition, all Teen Night attendees will get free access to our new exhibition 🌹#FridaKahloBKM🌹 and our Museum Apprentices will be hosting pop-up talks about Frida Kahlo’s art and life. Be yourself, express yourself, and meet old and new friends, this Friday at our LGBTQ+ Teen Night! Titled the Genders We Wear, the event is inspired by the unapologetic androgynous fashion in #davidbowieisbkm and the fierce representation of Latinx LGBTQIA+ communities in #radicalwomenbkm. Starting at 5 pm, join a talk with @chellaman, performances by @yung_reyes, @tayahnawalcott, and @djshemarleymarl, and a closing fashion show hosted by @reignofdynasty. We’ll also have a makeup artist, paperdoll dressing, a photo booth, and community orgs on deck! Today we stand with students across schools in Brooklyn, NYC, and the US who will be protesting gun violence one month after the #parklandshooting in FL. Long before this year, in Brooklyn, youth organizers have been protesting gun violence urgently, creatively, and intentionally every day, as we combat gun violence in our own neighborhood.We stand with @soscrownheights @youthorganizing who have committed to community safety and anti-violence youth organizing in Brooklyn to end gun violence in our community.
