We're thrilled to announce the launch of our newest Coursera course, Fashion as Design!

Fashion as Design focuses on a selection of more than 70 garments and accessories and explores their profound impacts—social, cultural, economic, and environmental—on the world. The course looks closely at what we wear, why we wear it, how it’s made, and what it means. The first session begins October 2, so we encourage you to sign up today.

Fashion as Design was created in tandem with the exhibition Items: Is Fashion Modern?, on view at The Museum of Modern Art in New York from October 1 through January 28.

We hope to see you in the course and at the Museum!

Fashion as Design from The Museum of Modern Art. Among all objects of design, our clothes are the most universal and intimate. Like other kinds of design, fashion thrives on productive tensions between form and function, automation and ...

The next session of our online course In the Studio: Postwar Abstract Painting starts April 24! Learn in the course about how Yayoi Kusama made her Infinity Net paintings, and see this work and others in the exhibition Making Space: Women Artists and Postwar Abstraction, now on view at MoMA

Yayoi Kusama explored the concept of infinite repetition across a broad range of mediums as she forged a path through the male-dominated Abstract Expressionist art world of 1950s New York. For this work, she photographed her Infinity Net paintings, then cut up the black-and-white prints and fit them into a grid. See this and more works by pioneering women abstract artists in the exhibition , now on view at MoMA.

Learn about the materials, techniques, and approaches of Kusama and six other New York School artists in our newest free online course, “In the Studio: Postwar Abstract Painting.” The next session starts April 24— enroll today at mo.ma/coursera..

Call for Video Testimonials:
MoMA's Director of Education, Wendy Woon, is incredibly excited about the global reach of the MoMA online courses and will be giving a talk at the Frick Collection on Friday about online art education. She would love to get some self-produced videos by course alumni giving their feedback on the experience and value of taking an online course-- we would be so grateful for your thoughts. Please don't hesitate to email me at [email protected] if you need any technical assistance. The talk is Friday, so the videos would need to be done in the next few days.
