“High Dive” by Miles Hyman is a striking work where layers of color deepen the composition, capturing a split-second in time. The protagonist hovers mid-air, suspended in a moment that feels both intimate and cinematic.

📍On view through May 10 at 534 W 24th St, NYC.

The printing press, built in 1892, used to create the lithographs, is recognized for the intense depth of its black color, as described by Patrice Forest, director of Atelier Idem. Mastering this particular machine, the crew of 6 to 8 craftswomen and craftsmen working in perfect harmony was able to deliver the deepest black, clarity, and definition, highlighting Frank Miller’s exceptional artwork.

Our collaboration with Frank Miller began at the end of 2021, when Lucas Hureau, director of MEL Publisher and curator of Michel E. Leclerc's comics collection, contacted me regarding their desire to work with one of the most iconic American artists in the field of comics: Frank Miller.

Through my gallery, I got to meet the artist. One night, while Frank was having dinner at my place, I pitched him the idea of traveling to Paris and having him produce a very limited series of high-quality lithographs in the oldest French workshop in Paris: Atelier Idem.

A few weeks later, Frank enthusiastically agreed to the project, on condition that he retained total artistic and qualitative control over the process. We were ready to travel to Paris in June 2022 and spend a week in the historic atelier to create the lithographs.

For our special collaboration with Frank Miller, we decided to collaborate with Atelier Idem - the oldest Printmaking workshop specializing in lithographs in France.

A special artist in a special workshop - Frank Miller, and the Atelier Idem team worked for four days on the lithographs in order to achieve the quality that the masted was seeking.

The lithographs are on view through August 2023 at the gallery. Follow the link in our bio for more information.

At last! After five days of intense work, the official signing and numbering of the lithographs has finally taken place.
Frank Miller insisted on signing with his full signature rather than his simpler monograph: FM.

The artist's proofs, which are the first lithographs produced, therefore with the highest definition and warmth, are available for purchase at the gallery.
Using a Marinoni press dating back more than a century (1892), the quality and depth of the artist's proofs are simply outstanding!

We offer five lithographs from each series, numbered in Roman numerals:

Marv: VI to X
Nancy: VI to X

The first five prints remain the property of the artist.

The works will be on display in the gallery starting this Saturday August 5th at 10am.
We look forward to welcoming you and presenting them to you.

Lithography is based on the mutual antipathy of oil and water. The image is copied or drawn directly onto a metal plate with a grease or fat-based medium, such as a wax crayon or an ink wash. After chemical treatment, the plate is dampened and then inked with a roller. The ink adheres to the greasy surface of the image and can then be transferred to paper as a print.

“Prints made are always a particular combination of the artist in conversation with the stone or plate, and the printer in conversation with the press,” said William Kentridge who has worked extensively with Atelier Idem.

The exceptional collaboration between Philippe Labaune and Frank Miller presents two series of artist's proof lithographs produced at Atelier Idem, the oldest printmaking workshop in France as well as two artist's proofs silkscreens created at Atelier Tchikebe, France's leading workshop for the medium. All the lithographs and silkscreens were signed by Frank Miller in Paris and are numbered from VI to X.
