Discover Jenna Bitar solo show ‘An Ode to free will’

🗓️ Opening on May 4th, 6 pm

For our first exhibition in New York, we will present a series of paintings by Jenna Bitar who explores the relationship between art and nature. Inspired by the freedom of abstract expressionism, she uses organic colours to materialise the movement and density of natural elements. Her large brushstrokes and supple gesture create dreamlike paintings which can be understood as an entire journey.

SeeN is a Boryana Petkova’s production made of an armour and a helmet. Both are used in a performance where the artist is on stage. During several hours, she is struck by light. This performance questions the notion of perception and identity. As always in Boryana Petkova’s performances, the body is at the centre of art.

Anna Bella Geiger

Personnalité majeure de la scène artistique brésilienne des XXe et XXIe siècles, Anna Bella Geiger est née en 1933 à Rio de Janeiro. En 1953, elle présente ses peintures à l’Exposition nationale d’art abstrait, aux côtés de futurs membres du groupe Frente et du néo-concrétisme.
Dans les années 1960, elle abandonne la peinture et s'intéresse davantage à la vidéo et aux gravures qui rendent mieux compte de la fracture sociale au Brésil.

Elle commence à inclure des éléments figuratifs dans les années 1970 notamment avec l'utilisation de photogravures, de photomontages, d'assemblages puis de cartes postales. Les années 1980 marquent le retour à la peinture puis les années 1990 à des sculptures à la limite de l'abstraction.

Ses deux vidéos, Passagens I et Passagens II (1974), ainsi que les œuvres originales Limpeza do ouvido com cotonete (1968), O Pão Nosso de Cada Dia (1978), font partie de la prochaine exposition de la galerie.

Anna Bella Geiger, a major figure in the Brazilian art scene of the 20th and 21st centuries, was born in 1933 in Rio de Janeiro. In 1953, she presented her paintings at the National Exhibition of Abstract Art, alongside future members of the Frente group and neo-concretism.
In the 1960s, she abandoned painting and became more interested in video and engravings, which better reflected the social fracture in Brazil.

During the 1970s she began to include figurative elements with the use of photogravures, photomontages, assemblages and postcards. The 1980s marked a return to painting, and the 1990s saw sculptures bordering on abstraction.

Her two videos, Passagens I and Passagens II (1974), as well as the original artworks Limpeza do ouvido com cotonete (1968), O Pão Nosso de Cada Dia (1978) are part of the gallery's next exhibition.

En cette période électorale au Brésil, la galerie Ilian Rebei a le plaisir de présenter une exposition rassemblant des artistes brésiliens recherchant sur le thème du corps et de la politique. Tous les artistes invités, de différentes générations, ont réfléchi sur leur rapport à la situation politique du Brésil.

La recherche découle des possibilités et des impossibilités implicites dans trois termes spécifiques : Brésil, corps et démocratie.

During the current electoral period in Brazil, Ilian Rebei Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of Brazilian artists reflecting on the concept of body and politics. All the invited artists, from different generations, have contemplated on their approach to the political situation in Brazil.

The research derived from the possibilities and impossibilities implicit in three specific terms: Brazil, the body and democracy.

Vernissage le 15 septembre de 18h à 22h.

Néologisme créé par espace fine, le terme Circades fait référence au rythme circadien, ce rythme biologique se répétant de jour en jour et régissant le fonctionnement naturel des organismes vivants. Inspiré·e·s par cette notion de temps cyclique et répétitif, nous souhaitons présenter une sélection d’oeuvres qui s’inscrivent dans des temporalités plus lentes, en dehors des impératifs de productivité, de consommation effrénée et de court-termisme qui caractérisent notre cadre sociétal. Proposant aux visiteurs·euses de changer de rythme et de privilégier le temps long, l’exposition vise à sensibiliser les publics aux enjeux qui marquent notre époque, et dont l’évolution s’inscrit dans la durée.

Carolina Martinez’s works are inspired by images of architecture. The geometrical aspect of her paintings shines a light on the representation of emptiness. The unpainted part should never be thought as nothingness : it is fully integrated in the artwork. This part isn’t silent.
