Markus Brunetti’s FACADES IV on view through June 20, 2026 🏰
Todi, Tempio di Santa Maria della Consolazione captures one of the most celebrated examples of Renaissance architecture in Italy through Brunetti’s signature process of prolonged photographic study and digital assembly. Construction of the church began in 1508 around a miraculous image of the Madonna believed to possess healing powers, transforming the site into a destination for pilgrimage and devotion. Defined by its centralized Greek-cross plan and crowned by a monumental dome, the structure reflects Renaissance ideals of symmetry, harmony, and divine proportion.
Created from thousands of photographs taken over extended periods of time, Brunetti’s works compress shifting light and perspective into singular, meticulously constructed views. Traveling throughout Europe with collaborator Betty Schöner, the artist returns to each structure repeatedly over an extended course of time, capturing every facade meter by meter before digitally layering the images into compositions that exceed the possibilities of any single photograph. In Brunetti’s rendering, the Tempio’s luminous
stone surfaces and geometric precision emerge with draftsman-like exactitude, echoing the building’s original pursuit of architectural perfection.
This and other works from FACADES IV may be viewed at the gallery Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM–6 PM.
