We're thrilled to host an artist talk with Dr. Fahamu Pecou on Wednesday, May 27, 6:30–8:30pm at Arthur Roger Gallery — free and open to the public.

Pecou will be in conversation with New Orleans poet Patterson about his current exhibition, "God Snapped When She Made Water… and Black Women." The show brings together paintings, works on paper, and sculptural "Fly(Girl) Whisks" — ceremonial objects reimagined through human hair, braids, and beads — to honor Black women as architects of culture, style, and spiritual life. Drawing from Yoruba tradition and Black aesthetics, the work reclaims what society has too often dismissed as sacred.

The exhibition is on view through June 27. Come for the talk, stay for the work.

Congratulations to Dawn DeDeaux on her installation in the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia — one of the most prestigious exhibitions in contemporary art. Her work has priotiy position in the Arsenale until late November.

For decades, DeDeaux has created deeply personal and visionary work rooted in New Orleans, addressing climate change, environmental collapse, memory, mortality, and the fragile future of our planet. Her inclusion in the Biennale is an extraordinary recognition of a singular artistic voice shaped by the Gulf South and informed by the realities of living in a city on the front lines of environmental change.

Curated under the title "In Minor Keys" by Koyo Kouoh, the 2026 Biennale brings together artists from around the world whose work expands the possibilities of contemporary art and culture. As one of two artists from the Gulf South, DeDeaux’s participation places New Orleans firmly within that global conversation.

As recent coverage noted, DeDeaux’s work speaks directly to environmental fragility and humanity’s relationship to catastrophe and survival — themes that feel increasingly urgent on a global stage.

A proud and well-deserved moment for a pioneering New Orleans artist whose work has long imagined the future while remaining deeply connected to this city.

While the city turns green for St. Patrick’s Day, we dive into the greens found in the work of Amy Weiskopf. Her still-life paintings, currently on view, focus on the observable world through subjects such as green cabbages and crooked cucumbers.

Weiskopf’s compositions, painted in Italy and Brooklyn, utilize a range of green tones to explore the relationship between form and light. These works move beyond traditional still-life subjects to focus on the structure of everyday vegetables.

Visit the gallery to see these paintings in person.
On view through April 18.

Arthur Roger Gallery is proud to share extraordinary news: our artist Dawn DeDeaux has been selected to exhibit in the 61st Venice Biennale.

DeDeaux will present her work in "In Minor Keys," the main international group exhibition, opening May 9, 2026, at the Giardini and Arsenale in Venice. She is among 111 artists from across the globe chosen by the late Artistic Director Koyo Kouoh, the first African woman to lead the Biennale's central exhibition.

The selection carries deep personal meaning. Kouoh visited DeDeaux's New Orleans home, Camp Abundance, several years ago. Over evenings spent talking about art, the Anthropocene, and the fate of the world, a bond formed between them. When DeDeaux read Kouoh's curatorial vision — organized around motifs of enchantment, procession, rest, and what Kouoh called "artistic practices that open portals" — the connection was immediate. "What a gift, a gift from the grave," DeDeaux said.

The Venice exhibition will bring together works spanning recent decades of DeDeaux's practice, including works from her celebrated 2022 career retrospective "The Space Between Worlds" at the New Orleans Museum of Art, alongside the premiere of a major new large-scale installation.

Dawn DeDeaux has been represented by Arthur Roger Gallery for thirty years. This is a profound recognition — of the artist, of her practice, and of New Orleans.

Lesley Dill: "Wild Grace – This Private Hallucinatory Moment" is now on view at Arthur Roger Gallery through January 13, 2026.

This exhibition presents a powerful new body of hand-cut copper and text works created during and following Dill’s Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship, where she explored the intersections of poetry, early scientific discovery, and visionary knowledge. Drawing from the writings of Emily Dickinson and others, Dill’s figures, what she calls her “Electric Ladies”, merge language, material, and light.

We’re pleased to share a video from Dill’s recent artist talk at the gallery. This short clip offers a glimpse into her process and thinking behind the work.
