This painting was inspired from a meditation I did to honor the grief of my ancestors. It encompasses both the Latvian and Dutch flags, the national birds from each country, both of my grandmothersโ€™ favorite flowers, and a daisy chain of flowers to represent the flower wreaths worn in Latvia during times of celebration. And coincidentally, today happens to be the Flower Moon. ๐ŸŒ• ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ป ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ ๐ŸŒปโœจ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

I bow to the grief my ancestors could not voice.

I release the burdens carried forward through blood and bone,
burdens I was never meant to hold as my own.

I break the blood bond of suffering.

I send back what was never mine to hold,
and I keep only what is a gift.
