🎂On this day in 1901 the legendary Louis Armstrong was born🎂

Did you know that Louis believed and even opened his autobiography stating that he was born on July 4th, 1900?

The city of New Orleans even declared July 4th Louis Armstrong Day in 1965, by decree of Mayor Victor Schiro.

But in 1988, historian Tad Jones discovered that a three- week-old Louis Armstrong, son of William Armstrong and Mary Albert, was baptized at the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Making Louis's real birthdate August 4th, not Independence Day.

Why lie? At the age of seventeen, Louis was already performing as a musician; one additional year would have made him an adult in the eyes of the law, allowing him to work late into the night at Bourbon Street clubs. Or did he just like saying he was born on July 4th?

Either way, let's take some time today to celebrate the great Louis Armstrong!

In 1989, the Neville Brothers teamed up with producer Daniel Lanois, whose groundbreaking work with U2 and Peter Gabriel had already made him one of the most sought-after producers in music.
Rather than trying to reinvent the band, Lanois immersed himself in New Orleans, setting up a temporary recording studio in an old Uptown building where the musicians lived and recorded together. The sessions produced a warm, immersive sound that highlighted the band's New Orleans roots while expanding their musical reach.
The result was Yellow Moon, the Neville Brothers' most celebrated album. Its closing track, "Healing Chant," earned the Neville Brothers the 1990 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
More than three decades later, Yellow Moon remains one of the defining albums of New Orleans music, introducing generations of listeners around the world to the city's rich musical heritage.

Earl Palmer laid down the beat before rock and roll even had a name.
Born and raised in the Tremé in 1924. Palmer was known for playing on New Orleans recording sessions including Fats Domino's "The Fat Man" and "I'm Walkin", "Tipitina" by Professor Longhair, and "Tutti Frutti" by Little Richard.
These driving backbeats helped lay the rhythmic foundation for what would become rock and roll.
Then he moved to Los Angeles in 1957, where he spent the next five decades becoming one of the most recorded drummers in history, playing on thousands of tracks with artists ranging from Frank Sinatra to The Beach Boys.
The beat came from New Orleans, and everybody else picked it up. ⚜️
