New Madrid Historical Museum Open 358 days a year The New Madrid Historical Museum displays artifacts and exhibits that tell the history of this area from the 8th through the 20th century.

Come find out about the New Madrid Earthquakes of 1811-12, the Battle of Island #10 during the Civil War, see artifacts from the Mississippian period, and much more! Our centerpiece is a magnificent exhibit on the New Madrid Earthquakes of 1811-12. We also have the following on display: Native American Artifacts that predate European expansion into North America and tell the story of the Mississi

ppians, who lived here from the 8th to the 14th century. Civil War artifacts and information on the Battle of Island Number 10, which was fought near here in 1862 . We also have a nice collection of antiques from the 18th and 19th centuries that help to tell the story of life in a small frontier town.

The museum has started our annual Birthday and Event Calendar fundraiser, did you know that New Madrid has been running this calendar fundraiser since 1950 when it was started by the Women's Club? (Checking notes) Truman was still President, and the Dodgers and Giants were in New York! Long time huh? Existing calendar customers will be getting their order forms in the mail this week (maybe today) along with return instructions, y'all know the drill.

If you are interested in getting a calendar, they are $9 each and you can also have the birthdays and anniversaries of family, friends and other loved ones on the calendar for 50 cents each! We've attached a form, or just send an email to [email protected] with a list of names and dates and we can get you started! Payment via paypal or you can bring/mail us a check or we can run a cc for you. Get a calendar, support the museum. Orders are due September 10th. We'll see you down here soon!

An event 250 years in the making...the museum will closed this Saturday, July 4th to celebrate the USA making it to the quarter millennium mark! We hope everyone has a fantastic 4th!

We recommend you take a few minutes and read the Declaration of Independence over the next few days, it's what the holiday is all about. Truly one most transformative documents in the history of humanity.

The museum will be back open on Sunday at noon- see you at the museum!
