Charlie Chaplin's thinly-veiled attack on Hi**er, The Great Dictator, premieres. The film, banned in Peru, Spain, and Japan, also caused a stir among the British Film Censors Board and the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, as it was feared that Chaplin's virulent film might run counter to policies of appeasement toward Hi**er.
