The Tonkawa people, known for their mobility, hunting traditions and deep knowledge of Central Texas, inhabited the region long before European settlers arrived. Their history, social structure and connection to the land offer a broader understanding of the area’s Indigenous past and the landscape crossed by the Camino Real.
