Are your plants feeling… underdressed?
Do your flowers crave personality?
Art Activity Day to the rescue!

Join us Saturday, June 6 in our Glass Studio to create Sunshine Stakes: A Summer of You — a feel-good, family-friendly project all about creating something colorful, a little chaotic, and totally you.

These 4×2″ glass garden stakes are here to bring joy to your yard, garden, or that one houseplant you refuse to give up on. You will use pre-cut and accessory glass to create a garden stake that is uniquely you! A stake will be attached by the Glass Studio once it is fired in the kiln.

Late last month, Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass welcomed artist Alexis Silk to Wisconsin. Visiting all the way from Murano, Italy, Alexis delivered and installed two sculptures to the museum to be included in the upcoming Our Time to Shine exhibition, opening June 27th and celebrating recent acquisitions to the permanent collection. These sculptures, titled Celebration, 2017 and Money Slave, 2016, are proposed as very generous donations to the museum's permanent collection — as Gifts of Alexis Silk! We are thrilled to be given the opportunity to provide a home to both works of art, which feature blown and hot-sculpted calcedonia glass from Murano, Italy. We are also grateful to Alexis' long-time friend and gallerist, Greg Mattson, for helping to deliver the artworks from his Atlanta-based studio.

Since receiving her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005, Alexis Silk has continued to study with glass masters including Pino Signoretto, Martin Janecky, and Cristiano Toso. Living and working in Murano, Italy, her works are an exploration into society, relationships, nature and family. Her artwork can be found in public and private collections around the world. The artwork features an upright bouquet of lampworked berries, flowers, and leaves above a rocky ground, and all above a root system featuring two of Stankard's "root people." Sautner's cameo work can be seen throughout three of the four exterior walls of the work, and features a large, branching tree with draped leaves. From the Collection of Gordon Park.
