Artists often draw from nature for inspiration for their work. Resident artist Elise Kirk from the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center visited the RCNC with an interest in our natural world. The subject of her inspiration was a lone coyote on the tall grass prairie of Nebraska.

Local artist and naturalist, John Lokke, visited the RCNC library this weekend searching for information on the timber rattlesnake. Among Joe Voges' collection of Nebraskaland Magazines, Mr. Lokke found an issue from March 1976, with the article 'Venomous Snakes' by John D. Lynch that shows the range of rattlesnakes in Nebraska. In addition to this article, Lokke is seeking information about a timber rattlesnake sighting near Minersville during the 1970s.

The timber rattlesnake has also been the subject of Mr. Lokke's exhibition 'Decline of the Timber Rattlesnake' (a ten part illustrated narrative in pencil and charcoal).
