The 2026 Class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame was enshrined today in Canton marking a historic occasion for the newest members of football's most prestigious honor.

Among them was legend Drew Brees, whose outstanding career has left an enduring mark on New Orleans and the NFL.

Several distinguished members of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame have also earned their place among the legends enshrined in Canton, with memorabilia commemorating their remarkable careers and lasting contributions to the game.

It was a proud day for Louisiana and a wonderful reminder of the lasting impact that some of our members have made on the game of football.

Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Member Spotlight: Drew Brees

Today, we recognize former New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees. After spending five seasons with the San Diego Chargers, Brees signed with the Saints as a free agent in March 2006 and immediately changed the course of football in New Orleans. From 2006 to 2020, he led the Saints to seven division titles, nine playoff appearances, nine playoff victories, three NFC Championship Game appearances (2006, 2009, and 2018) and the franchise's first Super Bowl championship in Super Bowl XLIV, where he earned Super Bowl MVP honors.

A 13-time Pro Bowler, Brees was the 2006 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year, a two-time NFL Offensive Player of the Year, and was honored as both the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year and the Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year.

Brees remains second all-time in NFL history in passing yards (80,358), passing touchdowns (571), pass completions (7,142), and completion percentage (67.7%). He led the NFL in passing yards a record seven times, topped the league in touchdown passes in four different seasons, and led the NFL in passer rating twice. On October 7, 2012, Brees broke Johnny Unitas' legendary record of 47 consecutive games with a touchdown pass, a record that stood for nearly 52 years and extended that streak to an NFL-record 54 consecutive games, a record that still stands today.

In 2024, Drew Brees was inducted into the Hall of Fame and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. On Saturday, August 8, 2026, he will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH.

Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Member Spotlight: Tony Robichaux

Today, we remember Tony Robichaux, the winningest baseball coach in Louisiana collegiate history. He won a total of 1,177 games during his 33-year career, coaching at McNeese from 1988-1994 and UL from 1995-2019.

During that time, he coached 29 All-Americans, 5 Academic All-Americans, 90 All-Sun Belt players, 55 All-Louisiana players, 6 Sun Belt Pitchers of the Year and 3 Louisiana Pitchers of the Year.

Robichaux was selected as the Sun Belt Coach of the Year 4 times, Louisiana Coach of the Year 4 times and South Central Region Coach of the Year 4 times and is the only coach in NCAA history to rank as the winningest career coach at two different Division I schools in the same state.

He was named to the McNeese Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017, the UL Hall of Fame in 2021, and the American Baseball Coaches Association’s HOF in January 2022. In June 2022, Tony Robichaux was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

Happy Birthday to Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame member Charles Alexander.

Alexander was a consensus All-America running back in 1977 and 1978. He is LSU’s No. 2 career rushing leader with 4,035 yards and the single season leader with 1,686 yards (1977) and LSU’s all-time season scoring leader with 104 points (1977).
He was selected 12th overall in the 1979 NFL Draft by the Bengals, playing for 7 years in Cincinnati and was a member of the Bengals’ 1981 Super Bowl team. Alexander finished his NFL career with 2,645 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns and 165 receptions for 1,130 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Foundation appreciates receiving a Wal-Mart Spark Good Local grant, which will fund continued aesthetic and technology upgrades at the LSHOF Museum in the Natchitoches Historic District.

Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Member Spotlight: P.J. Brown

Brown was born in Detroit but grew up in Winnfield, LA, playing high school basketball for the Winnfield Tigers and then college basketball at Louisiana Tech in Ruston.

In the 1992 NBA Draft, Brown was selected 29th overall by the New Jersey Nets. During his 15 seasons in the NBA, Brown played for the Nets, Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets, New Orleans Hornets, Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics. He was a 3× NBA All-Defensive Second Team selection (1997, 1999 and 2001) and helped lead the Celtics to an NBA Championship in 2008, before retiring after that season.

P.J. Brown was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.

Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Member Spotlight: Sam Mills

Today, we remember Sam Mills, who played 12 years in the NFL. He spent 9 seasons with the New Orleans Saints and 3 seasons with the Carolina Panthers, earning five Pro Bowl selections throughout his career (1987, 1988, 1991, 1992, and 1996).

Mills was part of the famed “Dome Patrol,” the linebacking corps that helped the Saints lead the league in fewest points allowed in 1991 and 1992. The team also ranked second in the NFL in fewest yards allowed both seasons as they compiled a 23-9 record – the best back-to-back campaigns in the club’s 34-year history.

He recorded a total of 1,319 tackles, 20.5 sacks, 11 interceptions and 4 touchdowns while starting 173 of 181 career games before retiring from the NFL in 1997.

Sam Mills was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2001 and in 2022, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
