ARKANSAS CEMENT:

Okay (Howard County)--Named after the company’s OK brand cement.
Until the late 1980s, the town of Okay in Howard County was home to a major limestone mining operation located on a peninsula on the east side of Millwood Lake. Most of what remained of the once-thriving company town, founded in the late 1920s, had almost disappeared by the end of the twentieth century.

In 1926, Charles Boettcher, founder of Ideal Cement Company, based in Denver, Colorado, dispatched Tom Dodson and Joe Hargis from a branch plant in Oklahoma to scout out a potential Arkansas plant site after learning of the growing movement in Arkansas to improve roads and bridges. A remote site in Howard County was chosen due to its rich deposits of limestone and chalk.

We think the left pic is near the end of the 1927 and the other is 2025. E.A. Williams Chapel/Museum.....formerly known as the Nashville Presbyterian Church. Placed on the National Registry of Historical Places in 1976.

We started Old #3 today! Ran it for about 5 minutes......got a little carburetor leak.....easy fix with gaskets. More to come! Thanks Tim Dean for stopping by with the amp meter to check our amps!

Sunday afternoon report: Old Whitesides made it to the gas station, took on some petrel then proceeded to the Nashville High School Parking lot. After a few big donuts around the empty lot and then circling all the trash cans ......we headed down Main Street for a test drive of the County Fair Parade route. Back to the Old Nashville Fire Station, I think we are good to go for the Parade on Monday. Wave at us as we go by and we will try to have candy for everyone!
