Happy National Radio Day! 📻

On August 20, 1920, Detroit station 8MK (known today as WWJ) went on the air in a landmark moment for American commercial radio. Radio would go on to transform how generations of listeners encountered music, news and entertainment.

Inside our “Edison to iPod: The Evolution of Recorded Sound” exhibit, visitors can explore radios and other listening technology representing the changing ways sound entered our homes and lives.

57 years ago this week, these drums were part of music history. ☮️🥁

Michael Shrieve was just 20 years old when he took the stage with Carlos Santana at Woodstock, delivering his unforgettable performance during “Soul Sacrifice” on these very drums.

Today, you can see them right here at the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum.

Randy Bachman, founder of The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive, took the stage at our 2014 Induction Ceremony on a night when it was seven degrees outside.

He heated up the whole building playing one of the biggest songs of the 70s, “Taking Care of Business.”

Nothing more rockin’ roll than “alright! alright! alright!”
