Coyote Gallery by Jodie Friend

Coyote Gallery by Jodie Friend Coyote Gallery is an online representation of artwork by Jodie Friend.

“If I could say it in words, there would be no reason to paint.”
-Edward Hopper

Jodie Friend is a Hoosier native, born in Seymour, Indiana and living in Bloomington. During her career as an athletic fundraiser and writer for Indiana University, Friend found time to fit in drawing and color and design classes at IU, but it wasn’t until she left the university that she truly immersed herself in th

e world of art. An oil painter, Friend has studied with Ron Mack, Robert Eberle, Ken Auster, Carolyn Anderson, Quang Ho and Jeff Legg. Jodie has been painting for seven years and finds her inspiration in everyday life, in the Hoosier landscape and in the connections she sees among us. She interprets her vision in a style she refers to as “representational impressionism”.

“There are so many wonderful artists that are willing to share their knowledge and experience and it has been my good fortune to learn from some of the best. The process of creating art is a pure joy and many times I feel that the painting just flows through me. It’s such a privilege to have that experience.”

Friend currently exhibits at the Brown County Art Gallery in Nashville, IN.

Since Brown County was a rural farming community when the early artists arrived around 1910, turkeys and chickens often made appearances in paintings. Carl Graf painted the local character Grandma Barnes feeding her barnyard fowl - and photographer Frank Hohenberger captured her on film. Artist Jodie Friend picked up on the theme and included the plentiful wild turkeys and domestic chickens in two of her paintings. See Jodie’s work at The Historic Brown County Art Gallery!
