🎉 Our new membership cards have arrived, and we're getting them ready to head out in the mail!

We're especially excited to introduce a new benefit for Bristol Bay Museum members—the ROAM (Reciprocal Organization of Associated Museums) Program!

Members at the $100 level and above now qualify for reciprocal benefits at participating museums across the United States and internationally! Higher membership levels also qualify for multiple membership cards, allowing you to share these benefits with staff, friends, or family.

Your membership does more than open doors to museums around the world. It helps fund our day-to-day operations so we can continue preserving and sharing Bristol Bay's history and cultural heritage. ❤️

Not a member yet? We'd love to have you join us! Your membership supports the Bristol Bay Museum while connecting you to a whole network of museums beyond our little corner of Alaska!

Movie Monday is back! 🎥🥳

We’re kicking off our new Movie Monday series in Naknek with The Price of Change, the first film from the 2026 Currents of Connection youth media workshop.

This film explores the connection between salmon prices, commercial fishing, family, and the future of a way of life passed down through generations.

“If everything else went away, if I still fished, I'd be good.”

— Erin Peters, local Naknek commercial fisherman

Watch The Price of Change and stay tuned for more films from Currents of Connection. Now at seestories.org/movie-monday

Made possible by support from the World Wildlife Fund WWF US Arctic Program and the Bristol Bay Economic Development Corporation, with partnership from Native Movement, Bristol Bay Media with Nels Ure , the Naknek Native Village Council, and the Bristol Bay Historical Society Museum .

We had a great day yesterday aiding Tribe and community members with collection care and we are looking forward to spending the weekend in Dillingham providing more services!

Join us on Friday August 14th from 2:00-6:00 PM in the conference room at the Bristol Inn for the Family Heirloom Preservation Workshop!

🧺 Family Heirloom Preservation Workshop – Free Community Event

Every family has treasures that tell a story.

Maybe it's a box of old photographs, a stack of letters, an audio cassette of an Elder's voice, a fishing logbook, a carved tool, or something that's been sitting safely on a shelf for decades.

Join the Bristol Bay Historical Society and our partners at the National Park Service and Bristol Bay Foundation for a free, hands-on Family Heirloom Preservation Workshop led by museum, archives, and preservation professionals.

Learn simple, practical techniques to:

📷 Care for photographs and documents
🧹 Safely clean and handle treasured objects
📦 Store family heirlooms to prevent damage
💾 Preserve and digitize photographs, recordings, and family history

Bring your questions—and if you have a small keepsake you'd like advice about, bring that too!

📍 Dillingham
🗓 Friday, August 14
🕑 Drop in anytime between 2:00–6:00 PM
Bristol Inn Conference Room

This workshop is free and open to everyone.

We believe Bristol Bay's history doesn't only live in museums—it lives in our homes, our families, and our communities. We hope you'll join us as we learn how to care for the stories that connect us to one another.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this post with friends and family throughout Bristol Bay!

What can I bring?
✔️ Family photographs
✔️ Letters and documents
✔️ Small heirlooms
✔️ Audio recordings
✔️ Questions about caring for special family items
Please note: We cannot provide monetary appraisals.

Funding for this project has been generously provided by Katmai Conservancy, Bristol Bay Foundation and Choggiung LTD.
