Work is underway at Warbird Park in Myrtle Beach to make room for the September 11 Memorial, featuring a steel beam from the World Trade Center. The Unity Memorial on 29th Avenue North has been removed, awaiting transplant to the new site at Warbird Park on Farrow Parkway later this summer. The steel beam was donated by New York firefighters in appreciation for the hospitality that the Myrtle Beach area provided following the terrorist attacks of September 2001. Plans call for the new memorial location to be ready for the 20th anniversary ceremony later this year.
