During the BRWHC this past weekend, Muskogee Police Department Officer Ron Mayes was presented with the 2nd annual Bass Reeves Legacy of Justice Award in recognition of his exemplary service, courage, community impact, and ethical leadership.
Officer Mayes was nominated by Muskogee Police Department Deputy Chief Reggie Cotton, who recognized his outstanding commitment to protecting and serving the Muskogee community.
The award ceremony was led by Muskogee Police Department Chief Johnny Teehee, who also honored Officer Mayes for his dedication to the principles of justice and integrity exemplified by the legacy of Bass Reeves.
Along with BRWHC guests were Officer Mayes' twin brother, Don Mayes, and their KAPPA ALPHA Psi Fraternity, Inc. brothers, and Muskogee City Manager Kendal Francis.
The award was donated by I:40 Print and Apparel, Martin Updike of Muskogee.

Event begins with Welcome Meet & Greet and history documentary at Muskogee's Historic Roxy Theater . The documentary explores how Bass Reeves exploits almost disappeared from history. Schedule

Friday, June 26th, 9:30-11 am at the MLK Center programming for kids.

Friday night, doors open at 5:30 at the Roxy Theater for the Meet & Greet. Concessions are available for purchase at the Roxy concession stand.

Saturday morning 8:30-930 is check in at the museum for the Beat Tour and other program events.
Lunch is a boxed sandwich, chips, and cookie from Mattie Jane's.

Saturday, June 27 doors open at 5:30, Program starts at 6 pm for
Awards Presentations and Dinner (catered food from Runt's BBQ).
